Code of Conduct / Court Etiquette
Rainbow Rackets is a community built on joy, inclusion, and a shared love of tennis. To make sure every player feels welcome and safe on the court, we ask all Rainbow Racketeers — members, guests, and first-timers alike — to keep the following in mind.
On the Court
-
Arrive on time. Please be ready to play at your session's start time. Late arrivals can disrupt rotations and cut into other players' court time.
-
Rotate graciously. Follow the rotation as directed by the session leader. If you're unsure where to go, just ask — we're all here to help.
-
Call lines fairly. When you're responsible for a call, be honest. If you're not sure, the point goes to your opponent. Disputes should be handled calmly and respectfully.
-
Keep rallies moving. Return balls promptly, avoid unnecessary delays, and be mindful of other courts when retrieving stray balls.
-
Mind your voice. Cheer each other on, but keep noise levels considerate of neighboring courts and matches in progress.
With Each Other
-
Lead with kindness. We have players at all skill levels, and that's what makes us great. Encourage, don't critique — unless someone specifically asks for feedback.
-
Be patient with beginners. Everyone was new once. A little encouragement goes a long way.
-
No unsolicited coaching. Save the tips for after the session, and only if the other person invites it.
-
Celebrate everyone. Good shots deserve applause, whoever hit them.
In Our Community
-
Harassment has no place here. Rainbow Rackets has a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination, harassment, or hostility of any kind — on or off the court, in person or online.
-
Respect our space. Leave courts cleaner than you found them. Dispose of trash properly and take your belongings (including your used balls) with you.
-
Look out for each other. If you see something that doesn't feel right, say something to a board member or session leader.
The Code
In general, Rainbow Rackets expects all participants to follow the widely accepted rules of playing tennis as outlined in The Code: Players’ Guide to Fair Play and the Unwritten Rules of Tennis.
The Code is a summary of procedures and unwritten rules that custom and tradition dictate all players should follow. No system of rules will cover every specific problem or situation, but if players of goodwill follow the principles of The Code then they should always be able to reach an agreement, while at the same time making tennis more fun and a better game for all.
A Note from the Board
We created Rainbow Rackets because tennis should be for everyone — especially those who haven't always felt welcome in the sport. When you step on our courts, you're part of something special. Let's take care of it together.
